The SKM Signature Prayer Shawl

Finally, I have a picture to post of the prayer shawl I've been talking about. For those of you who have already donated yarn, at last you get to see how it's being used. And for those of you who have yet to donate, hopefully this picture will help explain the significance of each bit of yarn we receive.

The picture doesn't quite do justice to the colors in the shawl, but it's a start. A friend who is a knitter and a photographer, has graciously donated her time and services to take a "professional" picture for use in note cards and hang tags to go with the shawl. Hopefully that will be done within the next few weeks. Of course I'll post the new pictures as soon as I get them.

Now, here's a question for the group. In addition to making the prayer shawls for recipients, I've been thinking about making a limited number of shawls available for sale, as a way of raising funds for the Knitting Retreat. I need to price the shawls on the high end because (1) it is a fundraiser and (2) the price should help keep demand in check - I can only knit so many of them. What do you think would be an appropriate price?

I wonder how they'd do if you sold them on ebay? That way you could set a reserve price, but if people really liked them they might go way beyond the reserve. And you could, of course, put links to your blog on the ebay pages, so people would know that what they're bidding on goes to a good cause.

Fun shawl, by the way - very colorful! Makes me think of Mexico, for some reason....

I have no idea what to charge for knitted or crocheted items. I was told (at least for the baby items I will be making for a lady at work), that you charge 3 times the amount of what it cost for the yarn and embellishments. However, if your yarn was donated that wouldn't work I guess...because 3x0=0. Sorry I can't be of help.

That is stunning! While I don't have any idea how to price it...I imagine at a high end place it would sell for $150 on up~! but I think the EBAY idea is a good one!

I also like the idea that people get to KNOW what it's about and for.

Great news! I got the first order this week for an SKM prayer shawl! I made one for a dear friend's mother and she loved it so much that she wants to purchase one for a woman at her church! :)

It's beautiful but I don't think shawls should be sold!
That was not the intent of the originators of this particular ministry. Find another way to raise your funds.
